Okay, so this is not the most exciting topic to talk about, but it definitely is very important. Here you have Wahable Pee Piddle Pads for all our boys and girls who are learning to go potty. You will find these at Paws on Palm Beach. Since we spend quite a bit of time grooming them to master this feat of going potty in the appropriate place, some training is defintiely required.
How you decide to do this is up to you, but let me give you a quick tip on how I trained my dogs. Whether you walk your buddies or just let them out into your fenced in back yard…this will work.
Here we go…set the timer on your microwave, (if you don't have a micro, any timer will do), for 60 minutes, when the bell goes off, walk your dog or let him or her out into the yard (I always said go potty, go potty and when they did I immediately said good boy, good boy and when I brought them in, I gave them a small training treat and reset the timer.)
I set the timer at 60 minutes for a week or so and kept up with the go potty, good boy and small training treat. After a while as soon as they heard the timer go off, they ran to the door, went potty, came in and sat and waited for their treat. Eventually I started to set the timer for 90 minutes to see if they could hold it a little longer, which they did.
After quite awhile, I stopped the timer, not only because I had trained the dogs, which now either waited at the door at potty time or bark at me, which is my cue to let them out, so I was trained also. Pretty straight forward, uncomplicated way of training…but until you complete the traning, the washable Pee Piddle Pads are a great investment.
The other great thing about the Pee-Piddle Pads is, if you can also train them to use them from the very beginning, it comes in perfect down the road if there is inclement wheather, or maybe they're not feeling well or the problem I had when we put weed killer on the lawn and couldn't let them in the yard for a week…whatever the situation may be, these pads are great.
The pads come in two sizes, large and small. The absorbant fabric on top is backed by a water proof underside. Unlike the piddle pads that have to be thrown away, these washable Environmentally Friendly Piddle Pads can be washed over and over again and is definitely a very nice alternative to the throw-aways.
